About the Film

This is film captures the resilience, courage and creativity of African American Muslim Fashion Designers walking off the beaten path. The history shared in this documentary uncovers the effort of Muslim fashion designers to educate and inspire African American Muslim women to be fashionable yet adhere to their faith.
These women have changed the face of Muslim American fashion. The earliest Muslim modest wear fashion shows started in the late the early ‘60s with Sister
Ethel Muhammad under the Nation Of Islam in Chicago. The focus of the Adorn documentary is the advent of the fashion shows in the ‘70s in New York City and the spread, mainly on the east coast of the United States to cities such as Philadelphia, Atlanta and Washington DC.
